The Barbara Walton Singers will perform Maunder's Olivet to Calvary on Sunday 31st March at Stoke Minster at 4pm. The soloists will be David Lycett and Fran Ambrose with the Minster organist Jonathan Hill. We are pleased to revive this very sincere and moving work which once upon a time was performed annually in many churches and cathedrals. Palm Sunday is the start of Holy Week, the most momentous week in the Christian calendar. On Palm Sunday Jesus enters Jerusalem and is greeted as the new king of Israel. Within a week he has been executed. The service begins, weather permitting, by the ruins of the old church before we process into the Minster and hear the story of Christ's passion and death on the cross.Find out more »
On Maundy Thursday, Christians commemorate the night that Jesus shared the passover meal with his disciples, instituting the eucharist, celebrating in bread and wine his saving life for the world. It is also the night when Jesus took a towel and a bowel and washed his disciples' feet. The celebration of the Lord's Supper ends with a time of silent reflection as Jesus waited in the Garden of Gethsemane for his pending arrest and trial.Find out more »
Good Friday is the most solemn day in the Christian calendar. Join us for a series of devotional meditations on the passion and death of Jesus with hymns culminating in the historic liturgy of the day (dramatic reading of the passion, prayers and Holy Communion). The Parish of Stoke-upon-Trent & Fenton holds its annual parochial church meeting (APCM) on Wednesday 24th April from 7.30 pm at St Paul's, Mount Pleasant. The meeting is preceded by the Meeting of Parishioners for the election of parish wardens. The APCM is open to all who are on the electoral roll of the parish.Find out more »
